I just recieved a BrighSign unit.
It does have firmware 0.0.38 inside
Please advise a link to have latest version as mention in the maunals
Can't find it on Roku web

You should be able to get any new updates for the BrightSign from http://www.rokulabs.com/support_bs.php -

I cannot get my BrightSign unit to update using the "update.rok" method as stated in the manual. When I first received the unit it had a 1.0.62 firmware and I had to use the upgrade command from the shell to get it to 1.0.63. Now with the 1.0.63 firmware I'm still having the same problem to get it to 1.0.70. I'll use the upgrade command again but it would be nice if this worked in case it needed to be done "in the field."
Thanks for a great product. I can't wait to see more features enabled in the future. Is there any potential for transition effects with the ImagePlayer in a future update? -

Indeed there is.
Regarding the update.rok
not working, the most likely reason is that the "safe boot" mode firmware on your unit does not support the CF flash card you are using. We have made changes to improve the CF card compatibility since the unit was manufactured, which is why the shell method works (see the firmware section of the latest online userguide for more detail). So if you try a couple different brands of CF cards, you should be able to find one that works. Future shipments will have 'safe' mode roms that have newwer software, so this issue will "go away".
Unfortunately we discovered a bug in 1.0.70 that causes the shell "update" command to fail. So for your next software update, you will have to use the upgrade.rok method (ie, find a CF card that works)

OK, maybe you can tell me which ones you have used that work. I have a Kingston 64MB and one Sandisk 1GB card right now (both major brands I assume). I'd rather not have to keep buying incompatible ones... The manual states that we should try "dir" and "readperf" to test the cards but doesn't say what will happen if the card is incompatible, that would be helpful...
Also, the manual states that it is update.rok, correct? Just want to be sure that I have the right filename the next time I do this.

this is correct. I will edit my post to be correct.
Regarding the CF card, it is really hard to say; even within models a manufacturer will use different chips internally.
I have a Patriot 2GB card which works fine. -
