Networking Issues

I have connected the brightsign HD2000 box, updated the firmware, and ran a few playlists and scripts fine. However now I tried to get the network working and am having issues. I contacted the administrator and got all of the information to manually set the IP info (necessary on our network) and the manual IP script from Roku said it was successful. I put the "Connect to Roku's Test folder" files on the card and when I start up nothing happens. I took the card out and put it in my computer and found that the "pool" folder is still empty and also that no log file had been generated. As a result I am at a loss for why the network is not working.

I think on our side that test server has changed, and I need to get it fixed. can you try the directions for setting up the hfs server that's included in the files. You can also email me directly at <!-- e --><a href="mailto:lallydice@roku.com">lallydice@roku.com</a><!-- e --> although I'll be out for a few days next week.

I have the same problem, not only with the demo files, but also with our own setup. It worked for 1 time but after that it didn't work anymore.

I tried setting it up with our server instead of the sample.  And it is still not working.  Although now it at least appears to be trying to get something over the network and is creating a log file.

    Log:

    play_bsp entered: autoplay.bsp

    2009/05/04 13:11:11.165

    ### Currently active sync list suggests next URL of [address of file on our server]

    ### Errors to ERROR

    ### Events to EVENT

    ### Heartbeat HEARTBEAT

    ### Usage USAGE

    2009/05/04 13:11:11.219

    ### send_heartbeat

I verified the address by copying and pasting the address into my web browser and it worked fine.

I tried using both set and data sync specs on my card.

It looks like that your XML ins't right. Did you first used the setup XML on your card? After that you have to place your content on the http server with the xml referring to your content that the player has to download?

It works now here on my player, the only thing is that it seems to take very long. I let the player staid on for the whole night, the next morning my content was playing. The problem here at my player looks like a time or clock setting although I set the player to look at the server every 3 minutes.  <!-- s:? --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":?" title="Confused" /><!-- s:? -->

So I would suggest that you also let it on for a couple of hours and do not turn it off.

I put the setup XML on the card and the data XML online with the files.  Then I tried data xmls on both.  I tried the numerous different autoplay.bas files provided by roku.  I used the generator for all.  At first I was trying to synchronize the actual content (the new bas and bsp files and some jpegs), but after that didn't work I switched to just trying to send over a file called "test.txt" in case the problem was with file types allowed by the network.  Although I'm not at work now so I don't have the card and server with me I believe my file layout was something like:

Original test - trying to replace images, autoplay and autorun

Card: autoplay.bas, autorun.bsp (I think those are the names of the files, but you know which I'm talking about) and a folder called "Pool".  The playlist simply sets the network update interval to 1 minute.

    Server: data xml, autoplay.bas, autorun.bsp, 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg, etc.

Next test - just trying to get an arbitrary text file downloaded

Card: autoplay.bas, autorun.bsp (I think those are the names of the files, but you know which I'm talking about) and a folder called "Pool".  The playlist simply sets the network update interval to 1 minute.

    Server: data xml, test.txt

I generally would run it for a couple of minutes past the total startup (after all of the boot lights are done) but I didn't let it go much farther since the log seems to indicate that it is already trying, but not succeeding.

I'm aware the test server files aren't working, the files that has your unit call into our webserver.

But, your own tests with hfs should work. I believe I've sent requests to both of your for your .xml file. I'm trying to determine why your xml files are being created with a date and time farther into the future than extepected. This it's the xml file that has the date and time the brightsign should restart  and start playback once it downloads the new content.
