Help with my first video

Hi Roku, Ok I have one that I think will be easy. I have a 210 that I am using here. I have a video that I downloaded from ShutterStock/FootageStock and I will be using it as the background. The video is a .mov file. I have a .gif with a lot of text and a transparent background that I will have on top of the video. The resolutions of the display is 1370x768. The resolution of the video that I got from ShutterStock is 1920x1080. I read the PDF about video and I understand that if I change the resolution of the video to match the resolution of the display then everything will be much more clear and smooth. So my question is: Anyone know an easy way to change the resolution of the video? Consider me a beginner when it comes to video stuff. Hope you guys can help.

Downscaling your video to 1360 can reduce quality. Does the video play fine on your computer? Did you already convert the mov to a transport stream for playback?

The video play great on my computer.

I have not converted it to a transport stream. In fact, I thought any 'ol .mov file would work. I do not know how to convert it to a transport stream. Like I said, I'm a beginner. Is there a guide to how to change it to a transport stream. I've been doing google searches but am not finding anything helpfull.

Not any old mov will do. Mov is a container format, so it supports different codecs, including codecs we don't support. We only support mpeg1, mpeg2, and h.264 currently.

SO, if your mov is an h.264 encoded file, with aac audio, you can use a program like vlc media player or tsmuxer to change the container type from mov to TS (transport stream).

With vlc, you can use their convert and save option, choose mpegTS as the encapsulation, and select their h.264/AAC TS profile. When you click on settings for the h.264 profile mentioned above, you can choose to keep the original video and audio under the video and audio tabs.

    Alright Lyndon,
I followed all the steps you said in your post. When I clicked SAVE, the file saved almost instantly, for some reason I was expecting it to process for a couple of minutes or something. I'm pretty sure that it worked but I do not know how to tell until I test it on the HD220.

I'll let you know the verdict.
    Thanks.

Ok new problem, BrightAuthor does not recognize the video files. When I browse to the folder that they are in they do not show up in the Media Library. I don't know what I did wrong here. Any thoughts?

Your video file extension has to be .ts, .vob, or .mpg to be recognized by brightauthor. If you converted to transport stream, you can change the extension to .ts.

Very sorry if this is a dumb question. How do I change the extension? It's more than just right-click and "Rename File" I presume.

Oh, And new easy questions. When creating this presentation in BrightAuthor how do I determine which zones are on top and which are on bottom?

I'm in over my head here. Upon closer inspection my original .mov file is a codec called MJPEG which you do not support. How do I change the codec?

So after some trial and error and LOTS and LOTS of googling I think I have the video all sorted out. I have a h.264 encapsulated in a .ts file. That's right, right? The only thing I do not quite understand about the video is the bitrate. I THINK it's ok but I also have no idea what a bitrate should be.

The video should work now but I have a couple of other small questions. The video is 1080, should I reduce the size to match the display(720)? If I reduce it will the quality be effected? If I leave it alone will that effect the quality?

And lastly. On this presentation I have a 4 zones. How do I determine which zones will be placed on top? I have a transparent .png that needs to be "on top" of video and 2 small .jpg zones that need to be "on top" of the .png zone.

    Thanks for all your patience.

Ideally, you want to change as little with the video as possible.

The video was already encoded with one bitrate. There's no need to change it. You can't make it look better.

I'd start by leaving the video at 1080 and see how it plays on the 720p screen.

You can't stack image zones. Images will always play over a video zone. SO, if an image zone is over a video, the video is always on the bottom.
