USB Wireless Network Adapter Support?

Can you use a standard USB Wireless network adapter on an HD1010 to update? If not are there any plans on adding this feature? This would be a nice thing to have since there are a lot of spots that we plan on using the ROKU that we can't run a network cable to.

    You need a wireless brigdge plugged into ethernet.

    We are looking into a better wireless solution.

    Have you evaluated the Cradlepoint CTR500? small router with wired and wireless ethernet connectivity, and an Expresscard slot to accomodate 3G/4G modems. WiFi can be turned off if you want to dedicate the ethernet to only the wired port.

    Might be an option for some applications.

    A (SAD) TALE OF TWO ISPs/Modems

    ..it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was the time of AHA! the
    ROKU -does- connect up fine but not at the same time as my PC but that's OK I'll just plug
    the PC back in and..oh-oh....no-go. Rats. <!-- s:cry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cry.gif" alt=":cry:" title="Crying or Very sad" /><!-- s:cry: -->

    Lyndon et al..  if  I'm understanding  correctly, one can use a wireless USB  internet adaptor
    (relatively inexpensive at around $20?) to connect to a ROKU XD...??? (please say yes).

    <!-- s:idea: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_idea.gif" alt=":idea:" title="Idea" /><!-- s:idea: -->
    The distinction seems to be that  you need to have an ethernet connection to your ISP
    (I do) and that it must be Bridged...so.. it would  apPEAR that one needs only to
      purchase an adaptor (perhaps an ENCORE ENUWI-N Wireless N USB adapter??),
      install the software,
      plug in the adaptor,
      tweak the Network connection parms so that it's bridged
       (ie shared with the ethernet connection, I presume),
      enable the adaptor,
       and then (ohoh...) RE-do the ROKU and NETFLIX and any other registrations,
    but THIS time I can enter the magic verfication codes meself, since both the PC
    and the ROKU can be utilized at the same time...... <!-- s:!: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_exclaim.gif" alt=":!:" title="Exclamation" /><!-- s:!: -->

    Good so far?  My experience with ROKU registration so far has not been an enjoyable one.
    Because I (or, rather, my girlfriend) only has a cablemodem and NO routher we need to rely
    on the crack ROKU and NETFLIX folks to perform over-the-phone registration... repeatedly...
    even though I (thought) I'd been told that one needed only to unplug the PC and plug in the ROKU,
    and verse-vice-ah. <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->

    S'gotta be the ISP (RCN) and the modem (Scientfic Atlanta)  <!-- s:evil: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_evil.gif" alt=":evil:" title="Evil or Very Mad" /><!-- s:evil: -->  that're the problem, but
    that's only? because ROKU does not support non-volatile registration (theory).  When the unit
    is disconnected from the modem (manually) and the PC is restored to use by (again) recycling
    (rebooting) the modem (eventually it normlizes..), the ROKU becomes, in a word, UNUSABLE...
    when it should really be it's-alREADY-registered-so-just-plug-it-into-the-modem-again-and-watch-a-movie.

    Note: had no problems doing this with My ISP, AT&T; RCN appears to be a different story. Ahem. <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt=":shock:" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: -->

    MEANWHILE, I have an old DI-604 (DLINK) router I'm going to attempt to use in a Wired
    configuration, perhaps (I pray) that will work.  I'd like to make the no-brainer suggestion that
    perhaps ROKU could bundle a USB wireless adaptor with the XD/XDS??  OR at *least* suggest that
    one be purchased along with the ROKU, for those of us without a wireless LAN, eh?  I don't think
    I've seen this anywhere in the FAQs, but I may have missed it.

    So, so-far on the fun scale the ROKU gets one star. <!-- s:cry: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cry.gif" alt=":cry:" title="Crying or Very sad" /><!-- s:cry: -->

    ...to be continued....
