BrightSign evaluation questions

I've been evaluating the BrightSign HD210w for an upcoming project (for background info, check out my previous post). My questions are:
  1. When the device receives an updated playlist via Simple Networking, will it re-download all media, or just new/updated media?
  2. Via Simple Networking, can the playlist (and corresponding media on our server) be updated outside BrightAuthor (by our systems), and then those changes "picked up" by the BrightSign device?
  3. What does the device do while updating the playlist and media via Simple Networking? Can it continue to play the previous playlist?
  4. Am I correct in assuming all media storage is on the SD card?
Thanks for your help.

No, it only downloads new media or changed media.

Via Simple Networking, can the playlist (and corresponding media on our server) be updated outside BrightAuthor (by our systems), and then those changes "picked up" by the BrightSign device?

Yes. If you use your system to update the current-sync.xml file, and add the hash keys for the updated files, then the brightsign will see the updated current-sync and download the updates referenced in the current-sync.xml.

What does the device do while updating the playlist and media via Simple Networking? Can it continue to play the previous playlist?

Yes, it continues playing until the updated playlist has finished downloading, and then it switches over to the new playlist based on the schedule.

Am I correct in assuming all media storage is on the SD card?

    Yes.

Thanks for the info Lyndon. That is helpful. One final question:

Is it possible for the HD210w to play a live video stream over the network? I cannot see an easy way from the documentation, but I was hoping perhaps there was a work-around.

    Not yet.

Streaming video support is currently in testing internally. I don't know the exact time frame for rollout. But, streaming audio and video are coming, but not ready yet.
