Real Time Clock Setting using BrightAuthor for 810

Is there a way of setting the Real Time Clock in BrightAuthor for a none networked 810? This is the process I want to do: create the application in BrightAuthor, publish to a SD memory card, put the card in the 810, power up the equipment and let it run with a pre-program schedule, then every time the power is recycled, the real time clock does not take the time stored on the SD card, instead continues with the current date and time. This is an application for a restaurant, the 810 is installed in a kiosk in a mall, there is not easy and cost effective way to connect the unit to Internet (unless is wireless but we want to avoid that because the kiosk is far away from the restaurant). We need to use the scheduler so at certain times, lunch time for example, we have lunch specials advertising, 4 to 7 pm, happy hour advertising, etc. How we can use the real time clock to control the scheduler if I can't set the time via a network? Is there a solution to this problem without a wireless connection?

The next release of brightauthor, version 2.1, should have the ability to set the time on the HD810. Until then, use the included files. You can edit the autoplay.bsp, with any text editor, to set time zone and set the time on the unit. Then, power up the unit with the three files that's in the zip file. It will play a playlist that shows the date and the time, so you can confirm if your settings were saved.

I used the files provided to set the time and date and after power up with the 3 files, the display shows the date and time I edited previously on the autoplay.bsp file; no problem so far. Then I created in brightauthor a 5 zone project, including one for the clock. Non stop (no schedule), I just set different images in the other 4 zones. I wanted to see if the setting of the clock worked. Then I publish the project in a SD memory card, loaded the card in 810, cycle power and the clock displayed 88:88 so I think the setting did not work.

Does this means that the time and date setting got deleted with the new play-list?

Does this means that the 810 every time is power up need to read the clock and date settings from a play-list? If this is the case, every time the 810 is power up, it will display the time and date contained in the autoplay.bsp file but this is not what I need, imagine any time the power cycles, the time and date will be reset to whatever was on the autoplay.bsp file. I'm confused.

Is it possible to set the time and date in a way so the 810 keeps it so any playlist can use a real time clock and hence the scheduler?

It should save the time. Please repeat the test, but let the unit sit for 5 minutes.

also, please confirm your unit has component video outputs.

It's not going to work for the equipment I'm testing, let me explain:

    1. I'm using my demo equipment for development. It is a 1010 ordered in May last year not a 810 (the 810 is the one installed at the Mall. I made the mistake of assuming that the 1010 I have for testing does all the 810 can do and more, that is why I was always talking about the 810 (end user equipment). Sorry for the confusion.
    2. I found this post HD1010: SuperCap not working http://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=23730  that basically mentions that my demo does not have a SuperCap so it doesn't keep the time and date during a power off - up cycle.
    3. Today I'm going to exchange the 1010 I have with the 810 installed at the mall to bring this one to my office and test if this one has a SuperCap or not (It was ordered at the same time I order the 1010). Hope!
    4. I hope there is a way of updating my demo because it's the equipment we use for development and if we can not test scheduling, well its not good.

    Thanks.

OK I set the clock of the 810 and It maintains date and time after keeping it power-off for several minutes. I wonder how long the 810 can be off without loosing the current time and date?

I'll check on how long the rtc keeps.

Please send me an email at support@brightsign.biz about exchanging your 1010 for a 1010 with the real time clock.
