Brightsign Control

Hello;

I have an application for an interactive Kiosk. The functions I will require are:

Toggle between two seprate display modes - Languages

Video Control via up to 48 individual 8 buttons. Each button will launch it's own unique video or Image file & sound onto an HDMI Video screen.

In the original prototype I used a Stealth PC and an x-keys matrix board that launches a macro to control software based imaging. As an example I used ACDsee as a platform to display the file. For the sound portion I used the winamp to provide the backround music. For the default screen - "Welcome to.....press any button to proceed" I used the standard windows screen savor running a milti-frame video file.

I know (trust me I know) that this was a very cumbersome work around so I am now looking into other products like Brightsign. The question is....based on my description....can the brightsign HD2000 serv to run this display mor efficiently and more reliably.

Thanks in Advance

    Do you have any particular controller in mind?

    Also, when you say different display modes, do you mean you want the brightsign to automatically change resolutions?

    For languages, will there be different files to play based on language?

    The first thing that comes to mind for control is the serial port. You could connect a controller to the serial port, where each button pressed sent a different serial command or file name to the player. The brightsign would then play the appropriate file.

    The brightsign also has a GPIO port (general purpose) that supports up to 12 inputs. This would be less efficient than the serial method, but you could connect multiple units together to get a total of 48 inputs.

    You could also control the unit over the network, using UDP commands. So, each button pressed could send a UDP string to the unit representing the file name to be played.

    Programming on the brightsign would be simple for the inputs. A simple interactive playlist could be used, with an entry for each command/file name the unit should listen for before triggering playback.

    No Controller in mind and looking for recommendations.

    I wonder if I can use the x-keys device in the same way I used it on the PC....as a keyboard replacement. Ultimately I'd like to do away with the PC altogether if I can.

    As for "Modes" that may have been the wrong word. What I meant was more of a change directory. Two bottons would select the Language preference (English Spanish) for the presentation.

    Thanks

    I'd need to ask around, but the xkeys should work. The device supports usb keyboards. So, if this xkeys shows up like  a keyboard, then it will work with the Brightsign.
