HD2000 x 2 + HD600 Possible Corruption Issue

Looking for some help. I am testing devices so I can start a small digital sign network. Current hardware includes 2 x HD2000 and 1 x HD600. I have a Brightsign Network Manager Account - made presentations, but now the units are not responding to normal programming.

Only one of the units will accept update.rok. I have tried the others via all means, usb, cf, sd, shell with no luck. I am getting a lot of weird reports from the shell scripts.

Within the shell scripts, I see the units tring to access the Net for the Network manager, it sometimes will download the content. I can not get any of the three units to play any files - vga, hdmi, comp.

I have a hard time getting the units to even boot without any media inserted. I am getting a lot of random lights on the display.

I am assuming there is a corruption within the flash memory. I am looking to default the units to factory settings, is there a way to reset or take out the network settings from the internal memory?

Any help or guideance would greatly be appreaciated.

Jon

    For the 2000s, if you've used them with brightsign network manager, they have recovery information stored in the registry. So, if you try to boot them with an empty flash card, or with no card, they will try to go into recovery mode.

    When you say you can't get them to play, what exactly is on the flash card you're trying to use. And, is the unit starting up over and over again?

    You can try reinstalling the firmware on the unit, but in safe mode. To do so, copy the update.rok to the flash card, and then power it up while holding down the video select button. Wait until you see the red update light to release the button.

    Lyndon,

    THanks for your reply.  I have had some successes today, more then I have had in the last week.

    Connecting the units back to the network and resetting up content via Network Manager has worked for the HD2000's (HD600 hasn't been tried yet).

    The digital sign project I am putting in place might not have internet access for a while.  How do I program the HD2000's to not check the internet for a connection, but just wait for a normal SD card based project.  I have seen the Localtest settings on the Network Manager, if I format a SD card with those settings will it override the internet settings?

    I have tried to boot with an update.rok while pressing and holding the video button, seems not to have an effect.  I do now believe I have all current software on the 2 HD2000's.

    Looking forward to more sucesses.

    I just sent you an email with a script that will clean out the recovery information in the registry. The unit won't try to automatically connect to BNM.

    Lyndon,

    Thanks for your help with the HD2000's.

    I have them working both via network and via standalone.

    Now I need to move onto the HD600.  I am not getting much out of this unit.

    If I boot with no flash card, I get nothing.

    If I boot with flashcard with playlist, I get nothing

    If I boot with update.rok, I get nothing

    If I boot while holding video switch with update.rok, I get nothing.

    When I say nothing, there are variety of lights on.  I have tried to access unit via Shell with luck connecting, but no luck updating.

    Do you have any suggestions?  I have tired the demo file as well.

    Thanks

    What lights are lit after the unit  is done booting, or does the unit cycle through lights over and over?

    You can check the cf card slot for  bent pin, but that shouldnt cause it to fail to boot.

    I have confirmed there are no bent pins in the CF slot.

    Question?  Is there a better memory slot to be using (SD vs CF), especially relating to updating?

    Here is the light information you requested.

    1. Boot with no card - lights on =power light on

    shell = tmFat32_Init() failed with err = 0x1b024014, errno=1

    Roku BrightSign [ Sep 11 2006 , 11:11:22 ]

    Roku Shell version 0.0.52 Release

    2. Boot with SD card - update.rok =power light on

    Same error as above

    dir = Error:can't open dir

    3. Boot with CF card -update.rok= power light on

    No Error on Shell

    dir = error above

    4. Boot with CF card holding video switch=Sane as above

    Hope this helps paint a better picture.

    Thanks
