Help Me

I'm doing my first video on a 210. The video is only 30 seconds long and I'm just keeping it simple, it will go into a normal playlist. The video was suplied to me on a DVD and I ripped it using iSkysoft DVD Ripper. I ripped into MPEG-2 SECAM format and the file has a .mpg name. The audio in the video is AC3 45kHz 2ch (I have no idea what that means.)

Will it work? I have no way to test it until I get on site and the least amount of trouble shooting I need to do on site the better. Please give some tips to a novice.

Also, did I supply all the info you gurus need to help me? If not just tell me what else is needed.

The DVD video files have extension .vob. These are already mpeg2. So, you can just copy the video file to your comptuer for use with the brightsign. There are normally multiple vob files. There might be some filler files, and only one that you actually need.

The unit won't decode ac3 audio. So, you'll get video and no audio. To get the ac3, you would need to connect to an receiver via HDMI that decodes ac3.

Or, you can use your ripping program, and see if it has an option to change the audio to mpeg1 layer II or layer III (mp3).

How big is the video? There's a utility called mpeg2vcr that you can use to change the audio from ac3 to mpeg. It's made by womble. I think the 30 day demo will let you save files.

    Thanks Lydon,

how do I know which .vob file to use and which one is just filler?

also it looks like my ripping software does not have the option to convert the audio to mpeg1.

    The video is only 12.4mb.

I will try the program you said to change the audio.

All this video stuff is confusing.

You can tell by the size. Some fillers are a few hundred K. Your actual video will be multiple Megabytes. And, you can just open them and see which one is the one you want.

I am totally lost on how to convert the audio using mpg2vcr. I see where I can convert video but not audio.

Got any tips on where I should start?

    Sorry for being a nucence.

I just thought of something. I am using the build in speakers of the display. I am connecting to the display using an HDMI cable. Wont the display decode the AC3?

That way all I have to do is publish the .VOB file to the memory card using Brightauthor and it should work right?

    (So very lost)

In mpeg2vcr, there's a little icon on the bottom right that looks like a yellow barrel. If you press it, it brings up the save dialog. If you click on audio, there should be an mpeg button you can press. Then you can hit ok, browser to a folder and name your video, and then hit save.

Your display won't decode ac3 unless it was designed to. Most displays don't decode.
