Simple Network updating

We have several HD210's implemented with each machine set to look at a different web server folder for different content. We have provided each machine with a card that points it to their own folder. Is it possible to publish an updated content set with BrightAuthor 2.0 that has no 'Web folder URL', so it not necessary to publish a unique set of files for each machine? More precisely, is it possible to have the machine remember the Web folder setting it was first given using the "Setup Brightsign Unit"?

I agree. This is an urgent issue. We're spending a lot of time making the players pointing back to the right server folder.

I'm sorry you are having difficulties but this is how simple networking was setup to work initially. I agree it would be easier if you didn't have to worry about what url was used the next time someone published something. it was setup this way so you could change the folder a unit was pointing to with any project you published. I can log a feature request on this. But, I can't make any promises about when the behavior might change. This isn't something that's been frequently requested, so it's likely it's not going to change any time soon.

I'm not sure what the second poster means by "spending a lot of time making players point back to the right server folders."

It might be possible to do this, but it would require some customization of the setup file to store the URL in the registry, and customization of the standard autorun to look in the registry instead of looking in the current-sync file.

I need to so some investigation. I don't know how long this would take to do. when do you need this functionality?

    Lyndon,

The initial setup URL should be written in a place that doesn't get replaced every time the unit is updated, if the person creating these playlists doesn't want it to. Similar to the way the Brightsign saves the Network Properties and time server settings, this should also be something that is saved in the same way. This will save a bunch of time for those creating content for many units.

It's not a matter of when we need this functionality, it's a matter of programming to make life easier for the users.

What I mean is, if someone by accident forgott to put in the right URL for the specific player when publishing a project, one has to go to the player and physically replace the SD-card, to set the player back to it's original URL-settings.

    Bumping this thread.
We had i very confusing and frustrating situation on a customers site today due to this circumstances.
I would very much appreciate if this could be advanced a little on the requested features list.

I was wondering if there was an updated solution to this.  I also recently accidentally published a project to the wrong url folder which caused my vertical plasmas to play the wrong (horizontal) content.  It would be nice if when a project was opened in the bright author software the correct publishing url would also change.  As of now the when the brightauthor software is opened the  publishing url/folder show the last published location.  This is fine if you only have one folder but once you have two, you are forced to change the url and folder location whenever you change projects.  I was thinking about having two separate Brightauthor installs with each pointing to different publishing urls but it doesn't look like you can have 2 separate installs on the same server.  I haven't tried the .44 version yet i'm still on the .42...

    Any help appreciated.

I'm checking with the head of the BrightAuthor project if this is something we can do.

yes I too would like to see  option to not publish the URL.

I was bitten by this yesterday.   I have 5 customers all simple network to different folders and content.

i forgot to check the presentation to set to current customer folder on publish.  So the BS unit went into a 404 loop since it could not download the content from my test site.

    very frustrating.

I was luck I could manually place a current-sync file into the area the BS unit needed and it updated correctly and save me a drive to a customer site.

I would like to see two url settings

1 is generated on the Server setup

    url1
    http:www.mydomain.com/sitename/backup/

this would only be used on first boot up to get files and as fail back.

    url2

    http:www.mydomain.com/sitename/live/
this would be the live production default and only updated on BA publish.  If this url gets 404 error it would attempt to get url1 as backup.

    my 2 cents.
