No audio when using WMV videos

Very new to BrightSign, but getting some nice results already.

One problem we're having is when using WMV videos.  We specify standard WMV audio format 9.2 (not the pro version), and we get no sound at all on our HD120.  The video plays with audio fine on our PC's.  And we do get audio when we use mp4 video.

Can you suggest why this might be?  We are specifying a WMV video size of 1360x768 (to match the monitor size), and the video itself displays very nicely.

Thanks,

Tim

There is no official support for WMA audio for the BrightSign players.

The HD1010 (and other players from that model range) were more likely to play officially not-supported file formats. As for the support of WMV, we only claim support for PowerPoint 2010 video export.

Please convert WMV file to mp4. There's a free utility called handbrake that does a god job converting WMV to mp4.

Many thanks for your quick response.

I think I was confused by your FAQ then, and perhaps it needs changing.  Under a section that includes the HD120, there is the following...

    • Additionally Supported .WMV (.WMV requires BrightAuthor 2.3 or later)
      • Windows Media 9 or later only with WMA audio (NO WMA PRO)

That would imply that WMV with WMA was supported, and does conflict with your advice.

Still... I can create MP4, so that will do.

    Thanks again!

If you are playing through the HDMI cable make sure you have selected HDMI output on the zone properties.

For some reason the good folk at Brightsign have Brightauthor defaulted to "Analog audio" even if your project is started with HDMI output in the initial selection.
