"Colored stripes" on display

We (a nature-lovers club) have five mobile trolleys each incorporating an HD1020 connected to an ELO ET2243L monitor via HDMI with USB for the touchscreen. The content, mainly JPGs and MP3s, is loaded by SD-card. One of our trolleys is reported to occasionally show "colored stripes" instead of the presentation. Powering off and on fixes it but of course we want a proper solution. The equipment is less than a year old so under guarantee.

I have not yet seen the problem, nor has anyone made a photograph, but I talked to some who have seen it and they talk of "blockiness" which might suggest a JPG artefact. For now I make no assumptions and suspect any of the HD1020, display, cables and SD-card. I swapped the HD1020 with our development rig which I have at home, it has now run for two days without problems and I have heard no reports of problems at the site.

Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips?

    Hi Derek,

Are the same SD cards (same brand) installed in five HD1020? Are all five units running the same firmware version? Which firmware version? Are they playing the same project, same content? If you can export the problem presentation, zip and send it to support@brightsign.biz, we can take a look at it. Does the problem happen regularly? How often? Is the HD1020 connected with the touchscreen via HDMI-HDMI cable? Is there any additional hardware between the brightsign unit and the touchscreen? Where is the problem unit located (inside the building or outdoors)?

You don't want to know much, do you ;-) Here goes:

Same brand of SDs? Not sure, I'll try to get to the site soon and check

    Same firmware? Yes, 4.4.44

    Same project? No, all different

Occurs regularly? No, they say "occasionally" but I'll try to get better data when I visit the site

Cable? The ELO has no HDMI input so we use an HDMI-DVI cable

Additional hardware? Yes, a cheap HDMI splitter (so we can attach a beamer. See http://support.brightsign.biz/entries/22172350-HDMI-splitter-on-HD1020). All five units have the same hardware configuration.

    Location? Indoors.

There have been no problems reported on the other units. My old PC died recently and I haven't yet got the new one fully configured but I'll try to make a zip in a few days. Do you have a preferred service for file transfer? I usually use WeTransfer.

And thanks for the prompt response!

Update -- all units have the same brand of SD card (4G ICIDU). I have written the presentation onto a different card and tomorrow I shall start running the original card on my home system.

Update -- the problem has been reported again from the site, which clears the media player and SD card. Someone took a photo (but it hasn't yet reached me). Top suspect now is the HDMI-splitter (which was a cheap item) so I shall remove that from the system this afternoon.

Update -- I removed the HDMI-splitter and since then no reports of problems on the site. Unfortunately my test system works just fine with the splitter, but I'll keep an eye on it (it was an intermittent fault!)
