Best method to update IP address on a BrightSign?

I've tried to find a clear answer to a simple question, but when I used some of the methods I found in the forums I somehow put my BrightSigns into a reboot loop.

How do I change the IP and DNS settings on a BrightSign?  We have HD210s, HD210Ws, and HD220s.  I tried using a new setup.xml file, but the settings in it were ignored.  I tried using an autorun.brs script, but that put them into an unending reboot loop.  I can manually retrieve the SD cards from our units, but I don't think I need to do that.

This is a feature that would be very good to put in the web interface, too.  I'm surprised it's not already there.

Thanks!

    Same wish here.

Not being able to update the network address via the web interface (like on every other modern network device) is really anoying. Why not integrated all useful functions and settings into the webinterface?

There are so many things that can go wrong when trying to fix / update a brightsign device on site. Everytime it takes ages to read through all the information splattered around the forum and sorting out the old guides.

BSN.Cloud is not an option an will never be simply because its too expensive and mostly there is no internet or just a local network with one master for remote access.

Most of the time we now used wave-systems IDAL players and it's much more comfortable to do certain things.

Still begging for a feature that was requested in 2012...

There seems to be risk involved in attempting to manage a player's IP address over network connection. Potentially, that player could lose its network connection as a result of miss-configuration. Is that a risk you could live with?

Same can be said about 100,000's of other AV and IT hardware, yet almost everything else lets you remotely change IP addresses in some form, from either the web interface or from a remote application, and people accept the risks involved.

If people are concerned about someone changing the IP that does not know the consequences, then you use a strong password to access the players, and don't give out the password, except for people that know what they are doing.

Having to create new set up files, pull the µSD card, write the files to the card, replace the µSD card, boot the player, etc. is really a lot to do when you just need to change the IP address. Even more so a hassle if IT asks you to reassign the IP's on numerous players. I have been on some project sites where the players are not easy to get to because of set pieces or attraction layouts, etc. Hundreds of players that had to be put in somewhat inconvenient places because of location logistics. What should only take minutes to do for each player remotely now takes significant time, removing access panels and such to get to the players. You can't always put the players in convenient easy access locations. That's why you put them all on a LAN.

Thanks for this feedback! I can totally relate to the scenarios you described.

There is away to add a custom tab to the DWS web interface.

Would something like that be helpful?

Can I safely assume that DWS was enabled during initial setup?

I agree with JRB Technical. The vast majority of AV and IT hardware can be configured to allow IP address changes remotely with some level of security.
I signed up to receive updates on this thread years ago (6+) in hopes that this feature might finally be implemented one day.

    Still waiting...

I second Chris Davis. Any news on this critical feature?

I am on the same bandwagon for this feature as the other professionals on this forum.  We have devices in multiple locations across the globe and to travel to each site just to update networking information is not cost efficient nor an effective way to spend my time.  I will further the request to not only be able to update static IP address information but also to update the WIFI SSID.  We are facing this very thing right now where WIFI access points are being upgraded and the SSIDs and Passwords are changing on remote devices in several locations.  We use SFN on many of these devices and the ability to republish or adjust setup files when publishing (much like the Standalone Publish with setup) would be highly beneficial.  I'm available to test or help with this feature in any way.

    Cheers,
    Monica

Ironic that this thread was updated today. We ended up moving to a different platform a couple of months ago that gave us the ability to update settings remotely. I put our Brightsign units up for sale on eBay and we are actually having a Christmas Pizza party for our department with the proceeds from the sale TODAY.

    Thanks Brightsign, for the pizza!

Over half way through with 2024 and we still cannot access these settings.  The software (all versions) is so incredibly horrible and buggy.  I cannot wait for the day my company finally stops buying this garbage product.
