Dynamic Playlists and Media Rss Feeds

I have a presentation that essentially contains three images then a media rss feed from www.screenfeed.com for local weather, then three different images, and a different media rss feed from www.screenfeed.com and so on.  However, I am exploring the advantages of dynamic playlists but it appears that I can currently only add images/videos to the list.

I've looked around on the forums and I am wondering if I should begin to explore creating my own media rss feed and just work on a way to update the media rss feed on our local servers to feed the presentations.

Suggestions?

You can add multiple dynamic playlists and multiple media rss feeds to a playlist in your presentation. Dynamic playlist is the BrightSign network feature, it requires the BrightSign network account and assumes you publish presentation via BrightSign network to the unit. You are able to manage the dynamic playlists on your account using the Local Playlist feature. Read this FAQ for details:

Yes, you can create your own media rss feeds, locate media files on your own web server, as you like better.

I've created a media RSS feed on our server and it is displaying jpg on the unit accordingly.  What setting do I need to change to alter the speed at which each jpg is displayed for?

Here is an example of one of the RSS Feed Entries.  Not sure why they are scrolling so fast....

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Do you mean the time each image should be displayed on the screen? Duration value in xml file is responsible for this. See the attached sample.

That was exactly what I was referring to.  Thank you.  After reviewing your template I discovered that I had a typo and apparently it was causing the RSS feed to attempt to load the picture, but was just skipping it and moving on to the next.  The log made it appear that they were changing about once a second, when in reality there was just one image displayed on the screen the entire time.

For the initial problem that I was trying to bounce around for ideas.  I am looking for feedback about the best approach.  Our presentations are a mixture of in house jpg/mpg as well as throughout the mix an mrss feed for weather.  My current understanding is that I cannot embed an RSS feed into a dynamic playlist.  That they only accept image and video files.

So I have to either create multiple dynamic playlists for the presentation, and between them put the mrss feed in, or I can create an mrss feed of my own with the images and other mrss feed items contained in that.  The attached presentation is working, but is difficult for some of our group to edit slides in and out.

Can you have a dynamic playlist running that lets say total would be about 5 minutes in length.  But about every 3 minutes it interjects some other slide or feed?  Kind of difficult to explain through forum, but I will try.....

Thanks for all the help that you have been providing.  I am very happy with the devices....

Media rss feed and dynamic playlist is the same thing. The only difference - dynamic playlist is the brightsign network feature, all media files (video and images which are included in dynamic playlist) are hosted on our secure servers, plus if you have multiple users on your brightsign network account, you're able to grant specific users the permissions to view/edit dynamic playlists.

Media rss feed is located on your own web server.

No, you cannot embed an RSS feed into a dynamic playlist.

    >> Can you have a dynamic playlist running that lets say total would be about 5 minutes in length.  But about every 3 minutes it interjects some other slide or feed?

The new slide should be added to the dynamic playlist. You need to add new slide to dynamic playlist using BrightAuthor or webUI (www.brightsignnetwork.com) and re-upload the whole dynamic playlist to network. Then unit will play the new slide.

In the case you use media rss feed instead of dynamic playlist, and want to change slide N in the feed, you should place slide N onto your web server (web folder), edit xml file to tell the unit to download and play the updated slide (don't forget to change the value in guid tag in the xml file). See this thread.

You could also try to use the Image List and Video List features. Read more about them in BrightAuthor user guide.
