Communication First Steps

Hello everybody,

I have check the forum for answer but I could not find what I am looking for. I am pretty newbie, so maybe I did not get the correct points.

What I want is:

1) To be able to uptade a XD1030 over ethernet connection

2) To contact with the XD1030 using RS232.

The problems that I am facing are:

on 1) I have the unit connected directly to my computer (MacBook running Windows XP). The ethernet configuration if the following:

 XD IP address: 192.168.2.2

Laptop IP address: 192.168.2.3

Both Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Both default gateway: 192.168.2.1 (there is not such a machine, both XD and laptop are directly wired over straight ethernet cable)

Even though ping command from the laptop to the XD gives answer and using Firefox to connect to 192.168.2.2 leads to the XD Web page, the XD gets not answer when "pinging" 192.168.2.3  (the laptop) neither the XD appears on the Local Network tab on Bright Author

Any ideas on why???

2) I am using a USB to RS232 adaptor on the MacBook working on Windows XP (which has worked before). I just want to check that the communication is working when configured:

115200 bps/8bits/no parity/1 stop bit/No flow control.

I am using the adaptor directly to the unit, no straight or crossed RS232 cables in between. Is that correct?

It echos my LF, but I would like to have some kind of answer. What kind of command may I use?

Sorry for such a long entry, I guess I need somebody to help me with the first steps :(

Best,

Diego

Reboot the player, then go to the LOG tab in the DWS (player Diagnostic Web Server) and select the entire log (ctrl-a to select all).

Paste the selected LOG content in a notepad document and attach the file to this post.

No, you DO need to connect a null modem cable between your USB to serial adaptor and the BS player.

    >It echos my LF, but I would like to have some kind of answer. What kind of command may I use?

unless you've dropped to the BrightSign prompt or you're sending a serial command that the script is programmed to respond to, nothing is going to happen if you send serial commands to the player. If you have the serial log in BA enable you can also monitor the script serial output.

    Hi!

I have attached a file with the LOG output.

I am trying to configure the BA to output the log serial, so I can check the communication.

    Thans for your support!

    Hi Diego,

What do you see when you enter the following in your Web browser?

    http://192.168.2.2:8080/GetID

if you don't see a XML document after entering the above IP address, did you enable the Local Web Server when creating a setup card for Local File Networking?

Which BA and FW version are you using?

    >I am trying to configure the BA to output the log serial, so I can check the communication.

In order to do this, make sure to tick the "Enable serial debugging" option under the "Publish" tab before publishing the project again.

    Regards,

    Hello again!

    Thanks a lot !

It was just a matter of bad configuration. I checked it and the network option was not enable.

About the serial comm,  I have it working now :)

Now my problem is the communication with a Panasonic PT-D10000, regular commands (PON, POF, QPW) do not work. It seems like the messege to send  is not just the string, I am trying to figure out what is going on (Panasonic Support is not helping too much...)

    Best,

    Diego

You need to find out how the serial port should be configured and how serial commands should look like in order to control the projector. You can find this info in the projector's user guide, or get it from the manufacturer.

    Hi again!

    Thanks for the info.

The commands, attending to the manual (attached) should look like those in this other forum:

    http://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=27828

But I can't even had answer from the projector (something like "ER401" or "ER402"). Does any of you have any experience with this kind of projectors?

    Hello everybody, once again!

A I have solved the problem: I needed to add the STX and EXT characters, so I used the "send byte (comma separated) and everything worked perfectly!

Thanks a lot for your help and support!
