Simple File Network Setup

Hello

I have set up the brightsign HD220 to look at our IIS server in which the web folder is shared.

looking at this information http://www.brightsign.biz/documents/BrightSign_Network_Installation_Tips.pdf when trying to view the sha1 file via internet explorer/chrome i get error 404.3 -

The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME map.

The above may have nothing to do with why it wont update but following the link above i feel it may have something to do with it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

i can ping my brightsign device with the IP i set but it doesnt seem to update on the screen.

Regards

Josh

Update: i can now view all files.

When configuring the unit via "setup brightsign unit" it does not seem to be downloading any data from our webshare. the error light is flashing on the box and the screen is displaying the brightsign logo along with model ip etc.

Is anything additional needed to make it download the brightsign project? do i need to point the unit to a certain part of the webshare or will the parent brightsign folder do?

    Hi Josh,

The simple file networking troubleshooting tips are covered in this faq: http://support.brightsign.biz/entries/262282-Simple-File-Network-updates-aren-t-working-

You can use the attached script to run a network test on the unit to confirm if unit can get out to internet. Download and copy this file onto a blank SD card, insert SD card in the player and power it up. The status will be shown on the screen.

after running this script i get the message

ethernet fail ethernet interface cannot reach gateway: ping 0/10

this is the correct gateway being used and i can ping the device.

Did you manually assign the ip address info when creating setup files in BrightAuthor (Tools - Setup BrightSign unit)?

What firmware version is installed on the player? Power the unit on without SD card. The firmware version will be listed on the screen.

What BrightAuthor version are you using (check under Help - about BrightAuthor)?

Clean the registry of the unit using this method:

    http://support.brightsign.biz/entries/21796878-how-do-i-restore-reset-a-unit-to-factory-default-settings

Then, proceed with the normal setup, from scratch. If the player is reset, it will be required to setup the player again. Resetting the player causes it to forget all prior network settings.

Create the setup files again, save to a blank SD card, power the unit up with SD card. Please also save setup files to an empty folder on your PC, zip and attach them to this post.

can you try enabling the diagnostic web server in the setup files, then see if you can log into it? Are you able to ping the unit, even thought the network test is failing? If you can ping it, you may be able to get to the diag server.

I found that using IIS is very cumbersome. If you can, use Apache instead. The setup is a breeze and I have about 10 units working perfectly fine since one year. Let me know if you would like more details about the setup.
