This video talks about sending serial commands.

Do you have the port settings needed? Like speed.

How about the on and off command for that display, do you have those as well?

since there's no serial port on a XD230, is there another way ?

Yes, only if your display supports cec commands. Under advanced commands, the same place where you'll find serial commands in brightauthor, you can also find brightcontrol commands. Those are for cec, over hdmi. If your display supports it, you can use those.

IF you have a commercial display that you can configure to power on when it detects an hdmi signal, you can also use the powersave mode settings. You can send a command from the brightsign that turns off the video signal over hdmi and vga. SOme displays will go to sleep, and then power off with no signal. But, that's only useful if the same display can be made to power on when the signal returns.

In Brightauthor 4.4 the serial commands are not selectable - I assume its because the XD230 doesn't have a serial port. is there another way to get to the CEC commands to control a monitor via the HDMI connection?

CEC is different from serial, you should be able to access the commands in the BrightControl group.

I believe the NEC CEC is turned on by enabling DDC/CI in the menu.
