What causes "Error uploading file to BrightSign" we have it happen sporadically with various files and sizes via local networking.
Is there a known cause to this? It only seems to happen when you really need it to work.

Quite often this is due to a firewall (windows Firewall or 3rd party firewall). In some instances files like images do uploaded successfully but larger files like videos do not.
I think I've tried this before, but I will test the same files out on a super simple network.
1 router all firewalls etc.. disabled.
1 laptop
1 player and see.
When this happens is the connection between BA and the player broken or does it simply time out?
Most of the time, it appears to be a timeout, something causing the communication to take longer than expected.
Here is an FAQ that may help:
There are no blocked ports or protocols within our local network. There is full device to device communication. It is by design as open as possible.
It is however a fairly large network. I will try some local tests with some of our trouble maker projects.
When you can't publish, can you reach the following location on the unit.
http://unitipaddress:8080/GetID
http://unitipaddress:8080/GetRemoteData
These are the same urls brightauthor is trying to talk to.
Yeah, I did a random survey of players and they open up fine. I'm uploading one of our problem project files via dropbox. I'll email one of them to support if you could check it out on your end that would be great.
I have run it through a shrunk down version of our network as described above.
I also tried it out with a cross over direct connection between player and computer.
Submitted a ticket via the help desk system, linking to problem content. It was assigned to "Sr. Support" and is now closed with no update or added info.
What was the outcome?
Please, what's the ticket number?
Please reproduce the problem. When BrightAuthor throws error, close BrightAuthor, and send the eventlog file.
The eventlog.txt can be found in the following locations. You may need to set your computer to show hidden files and folders to find this folder.
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\BrightSign\BrightAuthor\
Look for a subfolder named after the BrightAuthor version number, such as 3.8.0.30.
Also note that you must copy the eventlog.txt straight after the error and do not re-open BrightAuthor after that as the eventlog.txt file will be overwritten.
So you’ll need to cause a new error and only after that error you should find, copy and send the eventlog.txt file. If you open BrightAuthor again after the error, the information that we're looking for will no longer be in the eventlog.txt.
Greate info!
I wish we had known about the hidden log. We could have submitted so many of them, and help improve BrightAuthor.
Hey,
Sorry I haven't had access to the original files for a week or so but will have in the next couple of day..
Attached is a copy of a log where the file wasn't uploaded via BA. I had been using BA to create/edit some files before moving to this next project.
I'm guessing the error your looking for is "Exception is: System.OutOfMemoryException: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown."
PC I'm using runs an i7 CPU, 12gb ram, ssd etc...
Also, out of curiosity, did anyone have any luck uploading the presentation? Again, ticket was closed.
From the log:
Uploading V:\Exhibitions\Exhibitions - Current\Level 2\Squid DVD\MP4 Encode\Squid Doco.mp4 to http://10.5.11.66:8080/UploadFile
authentication required: userName is control, length of password is 6
Error uploading file Squid Doco.mp4 to the BrightSign
Exception is: System.OutOfMemoryException: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
It seems you've specified the username and password for the local web server. Try resetting the unit to factory defaults using this method:
Then re-setup the unit for Local Networking again, but this time don't apply username and password for the local web server (leave the credentials empty).
Try to publish after that.
Hi,
I have access to the files i sent you for test, the outcome of which still hasn't been shared....
Published without any authentication as requested the error is:
Uploading C:\Users\shaun.wharton\Desktop\Test\AV6 Floor Final Short.mp4 to http://10.5.11.5:8080/UploadFile
authentication not required
Error uploading file AV6 Floor Final Short.mp4 to the BrightSign

Do you need the full log?
We have an open bug (#14638) on this issue. It's under investigation.
We are having the same issue as above. We are using BrightAuthor 4.1.0.5 with Firmware 5.1.16 on HD222 and I am having issues uploading a .mov file to the players.
We just purchased an HD222. Using BrightAuthor Beta 4.1.0.9 with Firmware 5.1.16.
Event log:
Error transferring file using local file networking: System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: A connection that was expected to be kept alive was closed by the server.
at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse()
at BrightAuthor.HTTPPost.HttpUploadFile(String url, String filePath, String fileName, NameValueCollection nvc, String userName, String password, LWSPublisher lwsPublisher)
Please advise. Thank you.
Hi,
Please refer to the below FAQ:
Romeo
Hi, I´m new to the forum
I got the same problem. Happens with HD220 and HD 222. All with the last BIOS 5.1.33
I´d tried everything... Included the registry cleanup (http://support.brightsign.biz/entries/21796878-How-do-I-restore-reset-a-unit-to-Factory-Default-settings) and the LFN solve issue (http://support.brightsign.biz/entries/64420454-Unable-to-upload-content-via-Local-File-Networking-LFN)
None works in my case... In fact, if I leave the password to blank, Brightauthor can´t connect to the player (Acces Denied) . When I try to connect with only the login and no password Got the Access denied response.
I tried with 6 pc and 3 laptops, all with W7 x64, with no antivirus, no firewall, diferent local network adapters.
Triedn with Brightauthor 4.1.0.5 and 4.1.0.8
I´d just downloaded 4.1.0.10 to try
The event log i got tells me this :
Error uploading file HelloWorld-Stereo-Projector-3.mov to the BrightSign
Exception is: System.OutOfMemoryException: Se produjo una excepción de tipo 'System.OutOfMemoryException'.

Hope anyone can help me.
Regards from Spain
access denied normally means the unit remembers the previously used password. So, you can right click on the player, and choose set password, and enter that info.
Before trying to resetup without username and password, you should rename the brightauthor preferences folder that you'll find in one of the locations below. Once the version folder, with the prefs, has been renamed, the setup should work properly and give you a config with no username and password for the local server used for lfn.
Windows Vista
C:\Users\yourlogin\AppData\Local\BrightSign\BrightAuthor\3.5.0.24
Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\yourlogin\Local Settings\Application Data\BrightSign\BrightAuthor\2.2.0.39
Windows 7
C:\Users\YourLogin\AppData\Local\BrightSign\BrightAuthor\3.7.0.12
