Live HDTV on XD1230

I just need some help. I sent BrightSign Support an email last week and haven't heard back from them yet. I have the XD1230. I'm trying to display live HDTV in one of the zones. I've completed the channel scan and think I have everything set up correctly, but all I get is a blank screen. The channel scan discovered 400 plus channels. I've try using different channels, which it discovered. I'm using a Video or Image Zone. I've setup the zone using ATSC QAM for the RF in with a virtual channel  of 1008.704. My provider is Cox. If you can help please let me know what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks,

David

    David:

I do not have cable where I am currently, but I just went through the process with HDTV antenna, and as I recall the procedure is about the same. Everything worked fine.

What I suspect might be happening in your case, is that the content on that virtual channel is possibly encrypted.

If you have a HDTV, and connect the cable directly to the RF in on the TV (and do a channel scan on the TV), can you tune to that channel?

Every cable system is different, so I can't speak for what Cox is doing.  Some encrypt upper channels, some encrypt all channels.  More and more channels seem to being encrypted to force customers to use the cable companies boxes.

If the channel is encrypted, I think the XD1230 will still scan the channel, but it just doesn't know how to decode it.

Any channel that you can see with a HDTV while not using a cable box, should be able to be seen by the XD1230.

    Hopefully this will help some.

    Good luck!

    John,

Thanks for the response. I hadn't really thought about encryption. However, I can connect the cable directly to the RF in on the TV and channel scan and then tune to the same channels I'm trying through the XD1230.

The only thing I didn't understand was when I did the channel scan for the XD1230 was it found over 400 channels, when I had set the starting channel and stopping channel at 700 to 799. I think I'll try without the starting and stopping channels and see what happens.
