Dynamic HTML5 content + proxy server?

Right now I have set up my XD1230 to be DHCP with a proxy server. I have a basic presentation - just a few pictures on the left and a weather app on the right. The weather app is making a call to weatherunderground every 10 mintues and does this through JSON.

Here's what I tried:

I took the box, card, and presentation offsite &:

I re-formatted the card to run the presentation on a regular network, not a proxy - everything including the app showed up fine & it worked great.

I reformatted the card to the proper settings that it should have and loaded the original presentation. Everything worked, but as suspected, the weather app didn't populate as I had it set to a proxy and I wasn't onsite.

Taking the card from above, untouched, I go onsite and plug it into their bright sign. All the sudden the whole unit 'breaks' - screen goes black and "error" light blinks. I cannot get it to respond to anything, I need to reformat the card entirely, then I upload the presentation without the weather app and it's fine. Is this something I can resolve from the Brightsign side or is it something on the network side?

Anyone else have this issue? Thanks.

    Hi Kristine,

What firmware version is installed on your XD1230 device? There are several ways to check:

    1. You can power up the unit without SD card (or USB stick), and the unit will output the firmware version on the screen.

    2. If a diagnostic web server is enabled on the unit, you can enter the ip address of the unit in a web browser and see the firmware version.

3 If the unit is setup for Local Networking or BrightSign Networking mode, you can click on the Manage tab in BrightAuthor, then right-click on the unit and see its firmware version.

You said everything worked great when you tested the presentation. Have you tested it on the brightsign device or just previewed it in BrightAuthor program?

It is firmware version 4.8.114, I updated it when I formatted the card.

I've been testing it on the actual unit hooked up to a TV offsite. I only seem to get the black-out issue with error light when I bring it on-sight and plug it into the network there.

To clarify, both units are running 4.8.114 firmware or just the unit that is playing the presentation properly?

Yup, when I format the card I specify the most recent firmware there. It's tied to the SDcard right?

Just wanted to let anyone know who might have this issue - this has been resolved. It was not an issue with the proxy server, it was an issue with file structure. If you have inconsistencies in the file structure that loads dynamic content it will crash the entire BrightSign (black screen, error light, reboot) unit until you reformat the card and load one that is correct.
