Time/Clock events - I'm doing it wrong!

I have a number of image lists, that I want to change at different times (as they have slides indicating next show times etc). I have tried every variation on the variables for this to work, but seems to tick over once, then stay on that list. Running HD1010W on 3.11.11 using BA 3.8.

I have tried going from a "welcome list" to start, the second list is set on a Time/Clock event to begin at 8:05am until 10:00am, the third start at 10:00am to 11:00am and so forth. I have tried setting these as periodic with interval between events at anything from 1minute to 59minutes with no difference.

I have also tried setting them as a once per day event too set on the hour they are due to start, that doesn't work either.

I have rebooted the box and at times it has switched to the proper list initially but doesn't change after that - I'm obviously doing something wrong but the manual doesn't really expand on the function and variables. Anybody? Help?

Same here - shouldn't there be a simply way to assign when you want things displayed?

The manual is worthless in this regard. It explains nothing.

You can program when you want a presentation playlist displayed, but it seems that you can't add a second playlist or upload two presentations that have different times.

A little help would be good here

I'm not clear on what the OP wanted to achieve - you generally don't want to use the Time/Clock event to transition to another state as you'd have to have Time/Clock events on just about all of the states.

For example, if State A has a Time/Clock event that transitions to State B at 10:05 AM, and State C is supposed to trigger at 11:45 AM, either State B would have to return back to State A at the end of its image list (and State A would have another Time/Clock event for State C), or State B would need a Time/Clock event to trigger at 11:45 AM.

On the events on the current state are listened for.

You can get around some things using Super States or an Event Handler in another zone, but that makes things complex and difficult to follow quickly, not to mention difficult to manage.

The usual way to assign when you want things to display is the schedule - on the Publish tab.

Your presentations are listed on the upper-left and you can drag them into the time(s) you want on the schedule on the right.  You should set it to recur if it's supposed to play say, every Friday at 10:05 AM.

If there's some idle/welcome/attract state that should run when there isn't something else scheduled, you can use an Interrupt Schedule as long as you're not using BrightSign Network (interrupt schedules are not supported on BSN).

Chapter 8 of the BrightAuthor User Guide explains schedules and schedule interrupts

I wanted to be able to switch between different image lists at different times, for me it is much simpler to do that all within the one presentation, than have to make several presentations and schedule them in a calendar as discrete files.

So what is the Time/Clock event for then - if not a scenario like this?

And in fact you may have inadvertently given me an answer...I will try that. Many thanks!

I want to do the same thing.  For example: I have a lunch menu that changes daily.  How can I hold 1 image and change it to the next at 3pm each day?

    Hi Justin,

Using Time/Clock event is another way of doing what you're describing but it is in no way a simpler way of doing it. This approach makes the presentation slightly more complex to build and modify.

Please export your presentation and attach it here or send it via the support ticket system, so I can have a look at it and suggest where to make the necessary modifications.

If the structure of the presentation is always the same you may want to use a MRSS feed to dynamically update the content of your presentation without republishing the presentation. Please see the below FAQ for further details:

    Hello everyone,

This is what I am trying without success:

    (IMAGE-A)  -> (IMAGE-B) -> (IMAGE-C) -> (IMAGE-D) ->

then loop over and over again AND every 15 minutes  play (VIDEO-E) to go back to (IMAGE-A).

This is how I am doing it:

I am giving every image a Timeout Event of 7 seconds... and then a Time/Clock Event for playing the video every 15 minutes regardless of the day or time. So --

    1) If I put the Time/Clock event from (IMAGE-D)  to (VIDEO-E) every 15 minutes, the presentation will stall at (IMAGE-D) and the loop will not take place, but the video will play every 15 minutes.

    2) If I put the Time/Clock Event the same way and I also put the Time Event to HOME (IMAGE-A), will loop, but will not play the video.

So the MAIN QUESTION IS: How do I get to loop images and interrupt that loop with a video every X minutes?

What am I doing wrong? I read and saw the tutorials, but did not find a way to do this. What am I missing?

    Thank you kindly.

    Arik,

Events are only listened for on the current state of a zone.  So if the Time/Clock event is only on Image D, it will only trigger when the 15 minute mark hits while on Image D.

The easiest way to make it apply to all the images in the list would be to put those images in a Super State, then place the Time/Clock event on the Super State, which could then transition to your interrupt video.

Very grateful. I will try that. Thanks!

Hello! I'm having an issue with one zone in my presentation. The zone contains Live Text menus, which need to change twice a day. I have linked all the menus together with time/clock events, and this is what keeps happening:

    1. Wednesday Lunch transitions to Wednesday Dinner at 2:30 pm Wednesday -- perfect

    2. Wednesday Dinner transitions to Thursday Lunch at 10:00 pm Wednesday -- perfect

    3. Thursday Lunch transitions back to Wednesday Lunch around 1:15 AM on Thursday -- no idea why this happens.

Thursday Lunch should be displayed until 2:30 pm Thursday, at which point it should change to Thurs Dinner. I have checked the time/clock event over and over and it is set correctly.

Wednesday Lunch was the initial state, so I'm thinking something caused the unit to reboot? This has been happening overnight every single night -- so I have been resetting the initial state to the current day and re-uploading every morning so at least it's right for that day.

Any ideas? Is there anything else that would cause the unit to revert to the initial state?

    Thank you!!
