I thought BrightSign fixed this?
I just had a project handed to me by a client, for a pair of 103" plasma displays in Portrait mode.
They gave me a portrait HD video all ready to go, but BrightAuthor tells me that the resolution is not supported (1080x1920).
So still I have to take the video, and rotate it back (to 1920x1080) and re-encode it, to get it to work in a player, and do everything sideways.
This really needs to be fixed properly, there is no excuse for this not working yet.
The bug was fixed in 3.8.0.41 an later. But, that video size isn't supported on all players. If your brightautor project is targeted at an HD220/HD1020 or LS422, all based on the same platform, you'll get the error message.
But, if your project is targeted at HD2, XD, XD2, or 4k, you'll be able to add the video to brightauthor.
I'm getting the same error message with 2160x3840 videos on the XD233 player.
How can I make this work without downscaling the videos to 1080x1920?
1080x1920 works, yes, for players that rotate content.
But, portrait 4k content does not work.
In order to get the desired result, you'd encode your portrait video landscape, and then rotate the content clocwise or counter clockwise depending on how the screen's rotated.So, on your computer, the video would look like it was laying on its side with the top to the left or to the right depending on how you rotated the content; similar to this image.
I've received re-rendered videos, and BrightAuthor still rejects them. They're 3840x2160 h.264 .mp4 files. XD233 player.
Video with resolutions larger than 1920x1080 (technically 1920x1200 on modern firmware) need to be encoded as H.265, not H.264, for use on players that support UHD/4K video.
Are 2160x3840 videos now supported on the Series 5 BrightSign players?
