RS485 from XD1032

I need to interface an XD1032 to a lighting dimmer  (Dynalite) via RS485.

The protocol is simple enough.... trying to find an RS485 interface that will work with Brightsign is an issue.

I purchased a USB to 485 box.  It uses a CP210x USB to UART Bridge Virtual COM Port.

I have tried all the Brightsign comm ports without success. (The box works fine on the PC...)

Some questions:

* Are there any USB to RS485 boxes available that are known to work with BS?

* When will the BS USB serial firmware be updated to include a wider range of USB adaptors..? I come up against this all the time, and in my applications it is a real deficiency in the functionality of the BS.  Very  'hit and miss'

* Any other ideas how I can get around this issue?? (I don't want to use an RS232 to RS485 converter... as the serial port is already in use. USB would be much neater.

Thanks.

    Hi,

I have used a USB to RS485 device for talking to a Dynet network. I tried a few, I think the solution was one that uses Prolific PL2303 chipset. It was plug and play, I think it turned up on serial port 1... 0 being the inbuild port and 2 is reserved for USB GPS.

I can't remember the exact one but a quick google search should point you in the right direction, There seem to be quite a few on Amazon, no sure of their reliability. The PL2303 chipset is the same one used in the product below as it is a dual 232/485.

    Hope that helps.
