Good afternoon, my name is David and I had a question regarding port 8008. Our IT team has asked which aspect to open on our Firewall - TCP or UDP? This was their exact question:
" One question, is the port 8008 you noted TCP or UDP? Everything else has been added to the BrightSign Unit's policy."
We just want to make sure that our units can see the outside world and will not be blocked by the firewall when we install the new units. They will be XD235 models.

To make sure there is no misunderstanding, BrightSign players should NOT be made accessible from the public Internet. That is an open invitation for vandalism or worse.
The player should only be accessible by your LAN, or better yet, in a VLAN that only allows stations that require access.
It’s TCP, however generally it should NOT be exposed to the internet. 8008 is for the local device webpage.
Port 80 (also tcp) is enough for the BrightSigns to reach the Internet for normal purposes like pulling down content.

BrightSign players make outbound connections on ports 80 and 443 unless you do something custom. It is not typically needed to open outbound ports on the firewall..or at lewast 80 and 443 are usually open by default.
I sure as heck would not open 8008, 80, or any other inbound port to the BrightSign player. That is a recipe for inappropriate content playing on your screens.
