Html not working ?

Hi there !

I've been struggling all day long, and I finally write something here. I'm trying to display a web-page in an LS423. Firmware was last 6.x until I tried updating it to 7.0.21 but having the same result.

I create a simple html, calling some images in a image sub-folder. I create a project in BrightAuthor, and add a HTML5 widget calling that page on a video or images (non interactive or interactive) playlist. Of course, that page is running smooth on a chrominum.

The preview kind of work (not for the javascript, but has seen in another thread it's because it's not using chromium). But the preview does not work on the last BrigthAuthor 4.7 (just an empty white display in the preview) and rolled back to 4.6.

Anyway, so I publish the project, and used the SDcard into the player, rebooted it (many times with many options).. and there is just a black screen. Nothing is displayed. Neither the image, or even the helloworld paragraph when I create an even simplier webpage. Of course if I delete everything on the card and reboot, the display is the ip and firm version.

Still, using the inspector on port 2999 of the player, I see the index.html page, and see the html code is correct (with our without any javascript call).

The player works well for other medias such as videos or images directly listed in the playlist. But not the webpage.

So... what am I missing ? Thanks !

PS : I've also tried deleting everything on the sdcard, and creating an index.html file on the root of the card, without BrightAuthor. Same result... :(

    Flavio,

Did you ever get past issue? I'm new to BrightAuthor 4.7.0.20 and am running into the same issue in preview with an html 5 page. Just  a blank white screen when attempting to preview.

So I ended up downloading 4.6, uninstalled 4.7 and then installed 4.6. The HTML5 page preview now works correctly for me.

I'm just going to run with 4.6 until 4.7 gets a patch or try 4.8 when it comes out.

    Hi Bob

Sorry I didn't update this talk. After going back to 4.6, at some point it started working again. First with simple pages (even if BS have choosen a black background as default, which is .. stupid).

But I had to abandon this direction, has it was too hard to connect the page with outside outputs with UDP.

And I was disapointed with BS support, so I dropped ideas and went back to very minimal features on that project.

Did you submit a support ticket?  I don't see any support tickets from your email address.

    1. The BrightAuthor preview is not an accurate representation of the player's output, especially for HTML content.

    2. The HTML background is transparent, not black.  If it appears black, it's because your presentation's background color is set to black.

Friendly reminder, the community forum is intended for user-to-user discussion. For troubleshooting problems and to ensure a timely answer from a BrightSign representative, please submit a support ticket.

    Hi Brandon

No I didn't, because I realize that this forum was (official)support-less after finding solutions by my own and when someone finally answered me on twitter. One can think someone like you can go times to times on the forum, and maybe put a link to a FAQ we might have missed. Or to say : that is not working as you think because.... And not only when people reach a certain level of annoyance.

    1. Indeed, the brightAuthor preview is not an accurate representation, as it's not even using the same engine as the players (probably internet explorer as far as I've seen, on windows). Not even loading jquery correctly. So it's indeed not a good idea to trust the preview for this kind of apps. But that I figured out quickly.

    2. The HTML background might be transparent, but what is behind the transparency ? In every browser (firefox, chrome, opera, edge, internet explorer, safari) the default background is still WHITE when you do not define it. So when you don't know what is not working and you create a hello world page (to get the minimal setup), with just an empty header, a body with a hello world paragraph, no css, no JavaScript, the page is just pitch black (default background is black as well as the text). When that same page, in any browser, your text is black on a white background. So it took me a lot of reboots to figure out that the page was black and not white as standards, when I tried putting a background-color to #pink. Maybe it was on the documentation and I missed it. But as seen on other topics, I was not the only one.

They are very good ideas in your products and it's looks to work pretty well. As for me it's the first time I had to work with it (working on a museum which is getting 30 of them). But some details are annoying and make you loose time. That's all.

In any case, have a nice day ! :)

The fact that I'm responding nearly a year later to this is a prime example of why we ask people to submit tickets for official responses.  We do not have the time or staffing to read and respond to all the forum posts and replies.

Support tickets are put into a queue for us to view - so it's well-structured and all the pertinent information from the ticket is in one place.
The forum is very much not the same case.

What's behind the transparency?  Whatever is behind it - be it content in another zone, or if there is no zone behind is, the Background screen color set in the presentation's properties.

So... I am having the same issue. I am unable to display an HTML on my device. I am trying to push to an HD1024 and no matter what I try or which background screen color I choose it doesn't seem to matter. I have tried this on BrighAuthor version 4.7.2.8 and 4.7.2.5. I am told that the 4.6 version will not work with my device so I am wondering if the community has found another fix?

To be clear I am trying to push a very simple HTML that is pulling from a Google Slide Show. I have tried both a standalone HTML and a URL link to the presentation. I have also ensured that my screen size is correct.

Not sure what the fix is for everyone else but here is mine.

Looks like the software version was not the issue for me. I am using version 4.7.2.5. It looks like my issue was on the networking end. Our internal network does not allow devices access to the internet without DNS Server access. So the solution for me was to ensure the BrightSign was properly set up. I was then able to push the URL I was referencing within my HTML. Since the device now has proper internet access the presentation displays correctly.

For the noobs like me, make sure you set your device up correctly on your network. This can be done in Advanced settings under Network Properties when running a unit setup.

    • Static IP Address (Must have proper Network ID and host ID that is free)
    • Subnet Mask
    • Default Gateway
    • DNS 1
    • DNS 2

I just found a fix for me. I had the problem that i got a "publish error" every time I tried to publish a local HTML5 site.

I created my Html file directly in my Documents folder, which also contains links to folders like My Pictures or My Videos. It seems like BrightAuthor tries to check all subfolders of the folder containing the Html file for additional content.

If your Html file lies in a folder that also contains subfolders which BrightAuthor can't read, it won't work. Therefore don't create your Website in your Documents folder directly. I recommend to create a custom folder for Html files only. That made it work for me
