How to stop folder from growing

Hi all,

Each week I update our BrightSigns presentation and write it to a master folder that serves as a template for many SD cards. Over time, this has the effect of snowballing into a larger and larger folder. It's not a problem yet, but I'm very aware that one day it will be.

I'm hesitant to completely the wipe the folder and start again as the person who initially set the BrightSigns up has since left the company, and I understand that he had to do a bit of techno-voodoo to get them to work in our context.

I know it's the 'pool' subfolder that's growing but if I get rid of it and try publishing the new presentations then the BrightSigns stop working altogether.

How do I exorcise the previous presentations but keep my BrightSigns functional?

Thank you!

You should not be making changes to the published content, that's the quickest way to break things, as you have already found.

I'm not following how you're publishing here...

You're publishing to a local folder and copying the content of that local folder to the SD card?

It would be a lot of work to make the process work in this way, as it's not how BrightAuthor expects to work.

The normal workflow for Standalone publishing is to have BrightAuthor publish directly to the card, that way it can prune unused items if space is required.

By writing to a local folder there's presumably a ton of free space, so BrightAuthor won't prune anything.  I suppose you could publish the content to a separate folder each week, but that wouldn't stop the pile-up.  You would then have to replace the existing pool folder (Mac OS/*nix style) rather than merge the existing pool folder with the new pool folder from the publish.

If you want to keep an archive of presentations, you should Export the presentations from File>Export _name_ in BrightAuthor and point it to a new folder.  BrightAuthor will copy all the assets and project files to the folder so you have an editable and publishable self-contained copy for later use.
