If I connect 9 players to a switch without a DHCP server with only a simple switch do I need to specify IP information manually or will they sync with the default IP?

JRB Technical Yes you can do this with just a simple switch, I do this all the time.
I usually have all my players with static IP's regardless, but it is my understanding that this is not needed for synchronization, as they can use the default IP, and really are just sending/listening for UDP traffic on the same network anyway.
Keep in mind to use a regular (dumb) switch, smart switches delay the UDP traffic which messes up the synchronization.
