XT24# help

I have a few issues I have been trying to work with Brightsign support on but haven't gotten any where with them so far so I wanted to see if anyone else is already found a solution.

1:  My company uses the XT243 and XT244 units and on a few of the devices, they want to play the local news feed full screen.  Looks like I will need to install media player to send the feed to the bright sign box but have been unable to find one that will work.

2:  We have a PC that runs a program and displays production information on the screen.  We have several large TV's on the production floor that has to have a PC setup close by and a connected tot he the TV's as a extended monitor to display the information.  It is the same information on each of the TV's.  I want to be able to eliminate all the PCs by the TVs and install one in the server room.  Each TV will get a Brightsign XT244 unit and then I want to send the output of the screen on the one PC on the server room to multiple TV's via the XT244 devices.

3:  I have many XT243 and XT244 units that are displaying a power point presentation (the pptx is converted to a MP4).  I have a presentation setup in BrightAuthor but everytime they material is updated which is every few days sometimes, I have to go in and update the Brightsign presentation, save it and write it out tot he Brightsign network so the TV will get the new material.  I am looking for a way to automate the process so when a new MP$ file is saved, the Brightsign presentation can refresh and push it out to the Brightsign Network on it's own.  We do not want the end user to have access to BrightAuthor and to have access to the Brightsign presentations.  We do allow them to push the presentations to the TV's they want to display them on but do not want them to have the ability to change the layout or content to the presentations.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Steve

1: You said local news feed, but you didn't really say what this was. Is this a video source? This could possibly be done with OBS (free software - see more in response #2 below) and a PC with basic tuner device like those from Hauppauge (assuming TV video from local news channel) or video capture device if a cable box.

2: In theory you should be able to use OBS (free software) to stream display image (screen) of PC in a UDP Multicast format over the network, and have all the players stream that same feed.

This is a common software that many people use all the time to stream to Twitch, YouTube etc.  At its core is FFmpeg in which the BrightSign people seem to like to use.

That being said, I have played around with OBS a bit in the past, but I have yet to get it to work with BrightSign Players. I have used OBS to stream to other things without any issues.

Perhaps someone from BrightSign, or on here has had better luck with what OBS settings will work best for the BrightSign Players. If I have some time, I will play around with this again over the next day or so.

3: My recommendation for the PPTX mp4's would be to use Media RSS. With some simple scripting, and a simple local Apache server to serve the Media RSS files to the players. The script gets the mp4file information (say from a folder - one folder for each station) and writes it out to the Media RSS xml format. You could have one Media RSS xml file for each station. Then for each BrightSign player, you enter in the local network web URL for it's Media RSS Feed.  The players then check the feed every 5 minutes, and if there is a new video, they download it into the players memory, and then start playing it as soon as it has finished downloading it. This way the presentations on the BrightSign players would not have to be changed, just update the Media RSS Feed xml files as needed.

So I have OBS working streaming to a XT1143 and a 4K1142 for a few hours now.

I want to watch this for a little while longer, and look at some of the settings, but I will do a post on this for everyone interested later today.

Thanks for the responses and information.  I have downloaded OBS but have never used it before.  Do I need to use a streaming service to send the output to the Brightsign devices or is there a way to do it from within OBS?
