If you copy the firmware file directly to the root of the SD card and power up the player it should install. If it does not, you probably have the wrong file.
I believe this is:

Be sure you are extracting the .bsfw file to the root/top of the SD card.

Hello, i have a same trouble with LS423 update.
I try to, the two technique to update (directely SDcard and network with BA) nothing happen....
firmware LS423: V6.2.147.10
BA: V4.7.2.5
maybe firmware inside it's to old for update a news version ?

UPDATE using RESCUE MODE specifically if you have this problem and a player refusing to update with the normal update file on SD card or via BA methods!

I have caused his problem several times by either attempting to update with the wrong firmware (ie mistakenly loading an HD player firmware update onto a LS etc - even though it just seems to reject the update and do nothing) or having a power loss when the process was underway - leaving the player unresponsive to updates!
The Rescue Mode Procedure fixed this quick
