CAP Alert Message

Has anyone gotten a CAP Alert Message from a mass notification systems working on brightsign? We are rolling out a MNS on our campus and would like to override any brightsign players we have showing content in the case of an emergency, and I can't find any documentation on this with brightsign.

I am not aware of a pre-made presentation for this.  We are basically writing our own using a web server and HTML code.  The player constantly checks this web server for an alert message (a.k.a. screen takeover).

Another possibility is to write HTML code on a local server that can send a UDP message to all players on the network..obviously the network must be configured to allow UDP..and trigger a message on the player.  Canned messages are easy assuming they are cached on the player to be triggered.

I am not familiar with CAP Alert Messages so I can't speculate on how the messages are distributed.

For those interested, this is the info on CAP.

    http://docs.oasis-open.org/emergency/cap/v1.2/CAP-v1.2.html

This protocol is supported by most major signage players today, and really should be baked into the brightsign OS as a native feature.

This issue with this is getting access to the feed.

I already read and parse the NWS Cap Alerts feed which is almost the same feed.

IPAWS is in the same CAP format as the NWS, so I can read this format and convert to RSS or images for Media RSS, but I just can't get access to the feed without a prohibitive cost.

Unfortunately last time I looked into this, DHS has all these rules you have to adhere to in order to get access to the feed,  just shy of making all your employees and data center meet federal security requirements.

If they change the rules and make a feed that has easy public access, then this will be simple. But every time I try to find a path to gain access to the IPAWS feed, I hit roadblocks that most companies would have some difficulty overcoming.

We would have a custom CAP feed from our in house notification system. Its not as much getting the public events as our own. Fire, shooter, lockdown, ect. Our system puts out a CAP feed.

You should be able to configure a feed to point at.
