Project Thoughts

Hi!
We are currently working on a project based on the interaction of players with projectors.

Project Description:
10 players, 10 projectors, network switch, mixer / receiver, common speakers, LED lighting control.

1st group:
1 player + 1 projector. One movie with sound. At the beginning of playback, the player sends a gpio command to the relay to turn off general lighting. During playback, the 2nd and 3rd group players are “silent”, their projectors have shutters closed. At the end of the playback, the shutter of the 1st group projector is closed, the content stops (or only the sound) and the playback is switched to the 2nd group.

2nd group:
3 player + 3 projector. 3 different videos, the sound is common, comes from one of the players. At the beginning of playback, the shutters of projectors of the 2nd group open, the shutters of the 1st and 3rd groups remain closed.
At the end of the playback, the content of the 2nd group is stopped and the 3rd group is turned on. The shutters stay open.

3rd group:
6 players + 6 projectors + 3 players + 3 projectors from the 2nd group. 9 videos with sound. The sound is common, comes from one of the players. Additionally, the 2nd group is involved. At the beginning of playback, the shutters of the 3rd group open, the content starts simultaneously playing on the 3rd and 2nd groups. At the end of playback, the content stops, the shutters of all projectors are closed, one of the players sends the gpio command to the relay to turn on the general lighting.

Implementation:
In our view, one of the simplest solutions would be to add the 11th player acting as a Master. Commands to the projectors are sent via UDP and TCP.
In the project for the Master, all content from 10 players will be duplicated in the proper sequence and taking into account the duration of the clips for the timely sending of commands to the Clients.
Also, commands for controlling the lighting will be specified in the Master.
The Master itself will only be connected to a network switch.
Perhaps the sound will also come only from the Master.

Perhaps we missed something or did not anticipate it, so please share your ideas regarding the implementation of this project.
Carefully examine your suggestions in terms of alternative ways and solutions.
Thanks!

Using a master player, orchestrating everything, can simplify the programing, and the video files production process.

Enable enhanced synchronization, would be useful here.

You could avoid adding the extra player, but still designate one player to be the master of all.

You could have 10 video files, each at the full length of the program, and during the part where a projector is idle, its player would play black video, as part of the full length program.

Shutters control, would be driven by Video Time Code events

The choice between the two, should be considered, based on length of program, and the likelihood for content change at some point.

This project sounds like a permanent installation, so the second option could be a good choice.

    I hope that helped
