Touch area problem with HD1023 and ELO 15" - BA faulty?

Hi,

we have the same problem with 6 HD1023 players, with are connected to ELO 1593L (Rev B) touchscreens. After lots of headscratching we could narrow down the problem to be on the Brightsign side. Let me explain:

(I will write in singular, but it applies exactly to all 6 of them)

The player shows a simple presentation, where one layer shows all the content, and a second layer (mostly transparent) shows navigation buttons. In the navigation layer we have 4 Touch Items, which send Zone Messages to alter the content on the first layer. Simple and effective.

The content, all zones and settings are at 1366x768, as this is the native resolution of the monitor.

Now... in 1 out of 5 instances after power is applied to the system, the screen will flicker. It will be mostly black, but there are instances where the presentation shows. It cuts in and out randomly. Touch input is working tho, I can "use" the presentation without seeing what I am doing.the next time the screen turns on for a brief moment I can see the changes.

At first we thought the HDMI cables were flaky, so we changed them. No dice. We tested the monitors extensively with other input devices - they work beautifully, just not with the BS.

One fix was to uncheck "Force Resolution" - voila, no flicker! However, the screen was compressed on top and bottom (black borders). Setting both zones to "Scale to Fill" got rid of this problem, everything looks like it should, flickerfree and rock solid.

HOWEVER, the touch areas did not scale! The background image of my navigation zone scales properly, the actual touch areas are where they would be if I hadnt set the zone to "Scale to Fill". I need to click somewhere next to the displayed buttons to use them. Including another touch item in the navigation zone with a size of 1366x768 (just to make sure there is some kind of information in every corner of the screen) did not help either.

The graphics of my navigation zone are fullscreen, the actual touch area is as if the black borders on top and bottom were still present.

"Always show Cursor" assures me that the cursor is in fact always positioned under my finger, on the whole area of the screen.

As you can imagine, this problem is utterly annoying, even more so as the installation is located in a museum 500km away from Berlin (by german standards on the other side of the moon) and we have already undertaken several trips to fix the problem.

By now I am pretty confident to have tried everything I can think of and need some new ideas, please. I have to assume that this is a bug in BrightAuthor.

Thanks,

Christian

This doesn't address your specific problem.

We had/have many issues with an older Elo 19" touch screen at that same resolution.  We didn't use the touch features but it was a challenge getting the video to display correctly and it varied screen to screen based on the display firmware of the Elo.  Using numerous other more recent Elo displays, we have had no issues with various BrightSign models and the touch features.
