Networked Brightsigns, but not on the internet?

We recently attempted to get 3 Brightsign XT244s that need to be locally networked for access to a pi and presentation publishing, but not on the internet. We were unable to get them to work without an internet connection. In the logs we could see them reaching out to the internet for time (which we were able to remove), but there was also an attempt to reach out to Brightsign, which we couldn't remove.

We can't tell if not being able to reach out is what caused them to not work. If so, is there a way around this or not?

Basically we need them to work whether the internet is up or down.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I know the players do attempt to reach BrightSign for time, and the other accesses I have never been able to get a clear answer as to why the players try to connect to BrightSign and the purpose.

Regardless, if you have assigned IP's (or DHCP) to all the players, and your projects are published in Local Network mode, this works fine. I have done this where I have many players accessing a RasPi with Media RSS feeds on it that up date images based on time of day, and I just use the IP address URL in the players (http://192.168.10.5/mrss/myfeed.xml).

If it is HTML5 content, you may still have to check the box that says "Enable external data" when you add the HTML5 content to a playlist, even though it is a LAN network and not the Internet. That is the only other thing I can think of that may cause issues. I am not sure if I have ever tried HTML5 content on a LAN, but it should work, also using the same IP address in the URL's for the RasPi.

    Thank you.

It is html5 and I do have external data checked. I'm heading over to the signs here in a bit and will just double check the installation since it's in the final location and just unplug the switch from the net and see what happens.

The on unit setup does try to reach a provisioning  server. But, if you're using setup files from brightauthor, or bsn cloud, or from a 3rd party cms, then you don't need internet access to setup the players. Also, if you're playing local content that includes an autorun script on the sd card, you wouldn't need to do any setup, you can just load those files onto the sd card, and the units would play, again, without internet access.

Current 8.0 setup releases require internet access to go through on unit setup. That will change with a future release.
