On Device Setup

Quick one - new player with SD card installed and connected to the network, visiting the IP address, the unit immediately redirects to port 8080 for device setup.

Say the on device setup isn't working or you do not wish to use it, how to you get to the DWS?

Can you share a picture of what you are seeing?

Have you tried setting up the player, by creating setup files with BrightAuthor?

It may be the point at which I choose to install the production firmware (and hit Finish) that it seems to become unresponsive. It's probably the unit taking time to download the firmware image. In any case, the unit appears unresponsive and gives a false impression that the on-device setup is still functioning. If I choose to remain on the current firmware version and complete the setup, the unit reboots and it works as expected.

The installation I'm doing is more reactive than proactive so I tend not to prepare an SD card and instead just load the unit with a blank card. Rather, I use the Autozip trick and upload via the DWS to configure the unit. With the on-device setup running, I can't access the DWS until it has successfully configured the unit.

As mentioned above, I did succeed with the on-device setup if I left the firmware version as the current version. Once I've done that, the DWS is accessible again and I can then do my autozip method.

I was wondering if there was a way to skip the on device setup and go straight to the DWS (without loading setup on the SD card)?

I get where you are coming from, trying to leave all options open, because of fuzzy requirements.

The autozip dependent workflow, seems labor intensive.

You could achieve the same result, through Local File Networking (LFN) with BrightAuthor, through which you can update content and firmware.

If LFN is not a good fit for the project, you could also pre-configure the player for standalone, and by that avoid the setup screen, and have access to DWS, in any firmware.

@Nick - you can get to the DWS via http://playerIPaddress/index.html (replace playerIPaddress with the player's LAN IP) even if On-Device Setup is running.  Without the index.html http://playerIPaddress/ will redirect you to http://playerIPaddress:8080/ for Device Setup until it thinks you've already completed setup.
