OSC vs UDP ?

hello community,

I am trying to control a Brightsign (HD1024) from an interface (under Touchdesigner) using OSC.

I am unable to make it respond to OSC commands but seem to be working using UDP commands

Considering OSC is a string message based on UDP protocol, i am wondering what can be the slight difference between the two : message syntax appart, i would consider the OSC and UDP message to be compatible ? ie receiving the "/power/on" OSC message should be the same as "/power/on" UDP message for the brightsign right ?

thanks a lot

    Hello Gallo,

What port are you sending the OSC messages to?  You can define the UDP message ports in the Presentation properties under "Interactive".

    Hello Monica,

Yes everything is set under the Presentation properties. Ports are defaults one (5000).

As i said, when i send UDP message everuthing seems ok, but when i am using OSC as the protocol with the same message, things are not working.

    thanks

    Hello Gallo,

This older thread may help.  Seems like you're not the only one who has wanted to use OSC:

    https://brightsign.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/209958717-UDP-OSC-Control

    or this one:

    https://brightsign.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/209961537-OSC-Control

BrightSign support may be able to provide some extra knowledge on the custom scripting, or whether the new OS platforms support OSC commands in a better way.

    Cheers,
    Monica

    Hi Monica,

yes those are about the only posts about OSC on Brightsign units and they are not very helpful unfortunately

seems like OSC is not really a feature people are using with Brightsigns devices

    thanks anyway
