RSS Feeds not displaying

Using latest BrightAuthor Connected software with an XT245. I am able to add RSS feeds and validate them on the screen. They all pass the validation. So, I think Internet connection is than just ok. However, when I publish the presentation including RSS Feeds none of my RSS feeds is displayed on the presentation screen.

What can be the reason RSS feeds are not displayed at all? According to our network team Internet connection from the VLAN this XT245 is situated is just open. Using latest version of the firmware of the XT245 as well.

Would appreciate any feedback / suggestion on how to resolve for which thanks in advance.

Can you share the url to the feed and you’d like it presented on the screen?

As requested. Here some examples of RSS feeds that pass the check but not showing anything when published to my XT245 BrightSign device:

I submitted required input but apparently my post still has to be approved

I think that any link requires approval which keeps spamming under some control...

You could try and provide a "broken" link with missing obvious parts that we can safely guess :)

I try it again. The details requested for where posted on 24/5 but still pending Approval. Most probably because I added the URL's in the posting of my message. Below same message but with a printscreen of the links. Perhaps that is accepted.

Why is my feedback in this post as provided 28/5 and 24/5 still pending approval? And what is the problem to get is approved?

I isolated a potential problem in our network by attaching the Bright XT245 device to a local Internet line and I have exactly the same problem. In my configuration settings (while setting up the BrightSign device I ensure that the RSS Feed option is enabled but nevertheless I do not get any of my RSS feeds (with correct and validated URLs) presented on my screen. I can again add some examples here but then my message will end up in a "Pending Approval" again.

Moderator,..... anything you can do to ensure the samples I shared of RSS feeds are visible for others.

Most important for me is to understand why RSS feeds are not shown at all though successfully validated.

Still not working. When adding RSS feed in new Zone nothing is displayed. Just a bkack Zone bu valudation of the RSS is successfull. Will try later today if I have same problem with BrightSign legacy software (not BrightSign Connect). I have setup Brightsign devices , other models, previously from same desk with RSS feed with legacy software successfully. Strange, can not find the root cause of the issue yet.

I'm having the same issue.  RSS Feed points to a website calendar but does not display all the information - the event name is missing.

Unfortunately I have not been able to fix the issue on my XT245. My last test will be to use the BrightAuthor legacy software, not BrightSign Connected. As said earlier the RSS feeds I am using just past the validation but I only get a black zone displayed. Same RSS feeds work perfectly well on my other BrightSign devices but where configured using BrightAuthor.

Tested with BrightAuthor and exactly the same problem. I think will give it up and look for alternative solution. No way I get the RSS feed on this XT245 working though all links are successfully validated.

Last attempt for me was checking what is shown in Preview Mode in BrightAuthor. In Preview Mode the RSS feeds are just shown without problems on the screen. The moment I publish the presentation to the XT245 the presentation is shown but the RSS feeds not working.

BrightAuthor Preview only says what the computer gets, and that's often subject to different access rules than the player.

Publish a presentation with a non-black background pulling the feed URL as a HTML5 site and see what is shown. There may be a plaintext error message, or the feed content may be getting altered before it reaches the player. We've seen network security filters that block or change XML content, though I have no idea what the reasoning is.

Thanks Brandon. Not sure what you mean with "pulling the feed URL as a HTML5 site" but will check in the office. To avoid potential blocking in our company network I also tried to just connect to a direct Internet line and experienced same isdue. The Zone in my Presentation is not black already. I will check if the text color and blackcolor are not the same...

Put the RSS feed on the Remote URL for the HTML5 state. Under normal circumstances the feed XML will be shown on-screen and you can check the content and structure against what's expected.

Ok. I am a step further. When setting up my BrightSign device with my home PC at home not in the office the RSS feeds are working. Next step will be to test if the RSS feeds are working when setting up the Brightsign device with company laptop on my local Internet line.

    1. What ports must be open to let the BrightSign communicate over de company network
    2. Should I whitelist something?
    3. Can Trendmicro running on company laptop be the issue?

    Any thoughts?

Sometime there is a need to use a feed parser in order to present a feed.

What happens when you try to present this feed?

Below is a single item from the feed

See my post of 28/5 including same URL as you mention. Someting in the network is blocking it. For me another and better solution is to use a widget for latest news and for example weather information from buienradar.nl but I thin this is only possible setting up a webserver ?

By blocking you mean that you cannot see the feed XML from url .../Algemeen in a web browser?

I can not see the feed when the Bright device is trying to display the RSS feed on the device itself. However, it is shown in the BrightAuthor software. So why is it not display by the XT245 whereas just Internet access is available in that VLAN?

Are your computer and the player on the same network segment? (Using same gateway to the internet?)

If not then you could temporarily connect a laptop to the the internet, using the Ethernet cable used for the player and see if you can still access the RSS feed.

Let me test that out this week in the office. Computer is in another VLAN compared with the VLAN the BrightSign device is connected to.

Do you manage the player with BSN?
Do you know if internet access is available to the player?

    No, cot managed with BSN
Should I test out shiwing a HTML internet page as test on the device? But it is not a webserver and only set up local network connected
