HD1010 clock SuperCap not working
Specifications say that the HD1010 has a "Real Time Clock with SuperCap". I took this to mean that once set, it would keep time even with power removed, just like the HD810. Maybe I have a defective unit or is that not true?
I bought an HD1010 for demo purposes assuming that it would be able to act the same as any lesser model. But it will not keep time with power removed. It will set the time via network but if the network is not present, requires manually setting the time every time it is powered up. If the date command is used at the shell prompt (with no network connection), it generates an error: "Unable to set clock: I2C::ReadBytes::ioctl: Remote I/O error (140)". The date and time is actually set but is lost when the power is removed.
Does the HD1010 actually only have a useful clock if connected to a network with access to a time server? That will be a problem in some installations that have an internal network for control and maintenance but no internet or other time server access. That is quite common in museum or visitor center settings.
At the very least, I would like to be able to "over-specify" and not worry that something won't work because I anticipated a facility upgrade later.
