HD1010 local networking problem HELP

Been trying to get local networking to work correctly. latest version software and firmware (as well as previous version). I have manually added player IP's (Bonjour discovery was problematic so disabled it). I can ping the players from the PC running BrightAuthor. I can access the players using the IPs with browser. BrightAuthor however, cannot "see" the players in Publish or Manage. When player unit is first given setup file on SD card, it will appear correctly in BrightAuthor, then software will lose communication with player and it will say "unable to connect to (IP of players)". Cannot understand why I can ping players and connect to them using IE (with player IP in URL). Have tried using statip IPs on players and DHCP. Players and BrightAuthor PC are on same building LAN segment. Any help appreciated. Would like to know, exactly, how BrightAuthor initiates and maintains connection to players in "Publish" or "Manage" so as to work with client IT staff to help troubleshoot cause of issue. I have verified that customer not using a proxy, however they do have web filtering appliances on network (however, like I said, I can access players reliably using browser). HELP! customer getting frustrated.

I have tried accessing that address using Static and DHCP with no success.  255.255.255.0 is my subnet mask.

ok, then brightauthor won't talk to the unit.  Matt, did we already try resetting the unit to factory defaults, and then runnint setup again? ALso, I couldn't tell if the diag server is enabled on the unit, and if so, i f you can log into it from your browser.

I've attached the file to reset the unit to defaults.

I reset the factory defaults and then it worked.  It is a bit odd because I started with a unit that had never been out of the box and I still needed to restore defaults to get it to work.  Thanks for the help!

We are having the same issue.  10 XD230s were setup with static IPs and unique names on our client's network, discovered, and published to, and now only 2 of 10 are showing up when trying to publish.  All the units were running the latest firmware as of January.  Please advise.

Bryan, can you submit a support ticket?  Is bonjour enabled in brightauthor? can the unit still be pinged? which brightauthor version are you using?

Did these units all drop off at the same time?

I have a HD1010 that I am not able to get loaded and operational.

The project I am loading is set for the resolution below.

When the system boots I get the following error.

video mode 1920x1080x29.97 is not supported by this version of firmware.
get the appropriate firmware from support.brightsign.biz and upgrade this device.

Ok, if 1920x1080x29.97 says it's not supported, have you tried setting the output to 1920x1080x60p? Do you still get an error then? It is an odd error since 1080x29.97p has always been supported by the unit. Please test a different refresh rate setting using a script or playlist.

Yes, I have tried 720x480x60, 1920x1080x60, and others and have gotten different errors and have at times been unable to even publish the project.

Ok, then there's a problem with what you're putting on the sd card. The unit isn't seeing what you're loading. Can you send a screenshot of what's on the sd card?

Rolled back to version 3.5.0.24 and now able to upload stand alone project to HD1010.  I an no longer getting the resolution not support.  Changed the setup to Local Network, inserted the SD card it loads, I am able to see the player thru IE and can reboot the player from the control tab.  I am able to see the Network information from the diagnostics tab which reports everything is OK.

When in BrightAuthor 3.5.0.24 on the Published tab, Local Network I have the bonjour service enabled and it doesn't find the player.  So I uncheck the bonjour service and manually enter the player address and am not able to connect.

I have setup the unit using 3.5.0.24 for Local Network. (on my desktop machine Windows 7)

I have setup the Unit using 3.7.0.37 for Local Network. (on my Laptop Windows 8) and I get the Not supported resolution, however I am able to see the player on the Local Network tab.

With the 3.5 setup, when the unit booted, did it sit on a blank screen when you were trying to add the unit to brighauthor? For the 3.7, can you send us the contents on your sd card that give you the unsupported resolution message?

This is correct.  Blank screen, and can upload but get unsupported resolution

These are setup files created in BA 3.7. I run your setup files on my HD1010 (firmware 3.11.11). The unit did a network test, then booted to a black screen. I was able to add the unit to BrightAuthor 3.7.0.37 and publish project via Local Network. My project was set to 1080p29.97.

Please test with the attached project and confirm if problem persists. You need to open the presentation file in BrightAuthor 3.7.0.37, publish presentation to SD card, insert SD card in the unit and power it up.

Does your screen support 1920x1080x29.97p resolution?

I am experiencing the same issues with an XD 1230. It was working fine, but now I have nothing in BrightAuthor. No matter what config I give, it will not show up in local network. I can ping it and hit it on a browser, but not brightauthor. I am using BA 3.7.037 with latest BS Firmware 4.7.112.

In brightauthor, under edit, preferences, networking, is bonjour turned on?

Did you remove the sd card after you set it up? Did the unit disappear right after you published something, or did it disappear randomly? What error do you get when you try to add the ip address to the software?

Thank you for the assist.  I was able to get the HD1010 to publish with the current release BrightAuthor.  I don't know what changed, it just started working.  I am able to publish to the player over local network now.  Bonjour now sees the player.

    Left player with firmware 3.11.11

    BrightAuthor 3.7.0.37

    Thanks again for the help.

I'm seeing a similar situation.  I've got two XD230 units in two different locations. One works, one doesn't.  They are connected via WiFi and on a different subnet from the controlling computer.  One location works fine.  The other worked for a few minutes and now can only be reached by a system that is on the same subnet and also connected via Wifi. But the office system on the physical network and in a different subnet doesn't.

The players were purchased at the same time (about a month ago) and have the same firmware.  Any ideas?

This is therefore working as expected. Local File Networking is only officially supported for players and BA host PCs that are on the same subnet.

If your players are on different subnets then you should be using either the BrightSign Network or Simple File Networking publishing.

    Regards,

Here it is 2019 and I'm having the same problems people had in 2012. 10 brand new HD224's that can be pinged but do not get found by BrightAuthor.

    Tom:

Do you have Bonjour installed on the Windows system with BrightAuthor?

They have it so that BrightAuthor needs Bonjour to find the players on the network, unfortunately.

More than likely that is your issue. If so, all you need to do is download and install the Apple AirPort Utility as it is the easiest way to solve the issue of getting Bonjour. You can get it from the Apple site.

Tom, bonjour is only required for auto discovery.  Did you setup all the players for local file networking? The most common reason why brighatuthor can't see a player for publishing is because it actually hasn't been setup for local file networking.

When you complete local file networking, the unit reboots on its own. Before rebooting it says local file network is complete. If you used on the on unit setup, it says it's waiting for content to be published. If you used brighatutor lfn setup, the player sits on a blank screen that displays whatever idle color you chose.  We have local file networking directions posted in our quickstart guide, and we have a video posted on our training page that covers lfn setup.

If you used the local file networking setup that's on the unit, it's possible for that to fail to complete if your player couldn't reach the staging server.

If it is just a bonjour issue, you can go to manage tab or to publish, local network, and hit add unit and enter the ip address of the player. If you're not sure if you've done local network setup or you want to verify if it's setup properly, try to reach the following urls for your browser. These are the same urls that brightautor tries to reach on the units. If you can't reach them in your browser, then ba won't be able to either. If you can reach them in your browser, but brighauthor can't, it means the something's blocking brightauthor access.

Check if you can access one of the urls BrightAuthor is trying to reach:

    http://yourunitaddress:8080/GetAutorun
    http://yourunitaddress:8080/GetCurrentStatus
    http://yourunitaddress:8080/GetID
    http://yourunitaddress:8080/GetRemoteData

    @Radoslav,

HD1010 units are at least 5 years old, closer to 10 years old, and they are nearly a year out of support policy.
